  Dreaming for change
A FEW years ago, I was at a function where a group of children no taller that 1m were asked what they would like to be when they grew up. There were the usual doctor, lawyer, engineer responses and what have you when suddenly the crowd laughed when a little girl boldly declared she’d like to be a zoo keeper. AMERICANS are still euphoric after the historic victory last week of Senator – and now, president-elect – Barack Obama. But his honeymoon will be brief. He inherits a nation mired in bankruptcy caused by an orgy of reckless borrowing and criminal fraud.

  Chew, spit it out
WILL those responsible for the millions in losses of public money in Tourism Ministry subsidiary Pempena Sdn Bhd be held accountable for their actions or inactions? Will the long arm of the law catch up with the perpetrators of fraud? Is the new team at the helm serious in investigating the shenanigans which took place in the company?

  Workers’ long wait for justice

According to current practice, an employee who feels he or she has been unjustly dismissed has to complain to the Industrial Relations Department within 60 days. An industrial relations officer will then attempt to conciliate between employer and employee. If this fails, the case is passed on to the human resources minister, who would then refer it to the Industrial Court.   People are judged by their words and deeds

YET again, today’s column is not an essay on the English language but an insight into the mind-set and thinking of some readers. It is also a reflection on the ideals and thoughts on people who are held in high esteem by our society
