Kancil awards, judges reach finish line

JUDGES
for the Kancil Awards 2008 have finished vetting more than 1,300 entries submitted for the 30th Kancil Awards Festival.

The jury panel took two-and a-half days to pick the winners in the 22 main categories encompassing Film, Print, Posters and Outdoor.

The winners will be announced and presented awards at the Kancil Awards Night to be held at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa on Friday.

Jury chairman Ronald Ng said there was much relief at the end of the process.

"The judging process was very good and there was a good representation of potential creatives, from smaller agencies also," he said.

"There were healthy debates between the judges and most of us were quite happy to reward good work," he said, adding that the judges were concerned with looking for the best work.

This was the final stage of judging for the event as the categories for Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Broadcraft Craft and interactive media have also been completed.

To maintain the transparency and objectivity the judging, the organisers – the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) – ensured that the majority of the foreign judges were from independent agencies while the local jury comprised creative heads from the top six agencies of the year.

The main jury members were Thirasak Tanapatanakul (Creative Juice/G1), Sonal Dabral (Bates 141 Asia), Pann Lim (Kinetic), Matty Burton (Droga 5), Alex Burnard (Crispin Porter & Bogusky) and Graham Kelly (formerly of TBWA/Tequila).

Adrian Miller (Saatchi & Saatchi), Rahul Matthews (Young & Rubicam), Mun Tuck Wai (BBDO/Proximity), Andy Soong (Publicis), Ted Lim (Naga DDB) and Lakshmi Mohan (DraftFCB) are among the local jury line-up.
