| GEORGE TOWN (Dec 27, 2009) : The Penang DAP has come out in support of secretary-general and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who is under police investigation for sedition over remarks he had made on the death of Teoh Beng Hock.
Penang DAP publicity secretary Ng Wei Aik, who is also Lim’s political secretary, questioned the professionalism of the police in lodging a report against Lim for alleged sedition in saying Teoh had been "cruelly murdered".
Teoh, 30, the political secretary to Selangor DAP State Executive Councillor Ean Yong Han Hwa, died at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Shah Alam on July 16. Lim had allegedly made his remark at the Pakatan Rakyat convention on Dec 19.
"Why were the police in such a hurry to make a police report against Lim Guan Eng?" Ng asked in a press statement yesterday.
He said DAP leaders and members would give their strongest support to Lim for not giving in. Ng also took Khalid to task for saying no one should make statements that were baseless. He said it was not the responsibility of the police to interpret whether Lim’s statement had basis or not before the inquest headed by a coroner could draw a conclusion on Teoh’s death.
