GEORGE TOWN (Dec 28, 2009) : In a strong statement that it means business in wanting trouble-free New Year eve celebrations, Penang police today released photographs of some of the rowdy revellers who marred the recent Christmas eve festivities here.

Penang CPO Deputy Commissioner Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob showed photos of some of the people who had allegedly attacked Rela officials and journalists along Gurney Drive on Dec 24, saying he was determined to bring them to book.

"We are asking these people to voluntarily come forward to the police, and for those who know them to inform the police who they are and their whereabouts," he said.

Ayub issued a stern warning to revellers to restrain themselves from becoming unruly on Dec 31, saying the police will be out in full force to ensure the occasion was enjoyed by the public amid order and peace.

Speaking at a press conference at George Town district police headquarters today, Ayub stressed that all police personnel on leave have been recalled for the New Year, and that the force will be equipped with cameras to record and identify those who behave in unruly manner.

He also announced that police had on Sunday caught two robbers who had been involved in several house break-ins over the past few months in Penang.

The duo, who have been remanded under section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking in and theft, operated by prising open toilet windows, usually of terrace houses, to gain entry.

Both were caught around the Rifle Range area in Ayer Itam here after a tip-off received by the Crime Intelligence Unit of the George Town district police.
