TESOL at Brickfields

Teaching English is increasingly gaining popularity as a stable and in-demand career in Malaysia. While the notion persists that anyone can teach; like any other profession teaching has specific skills that require knowledge of learning methodologies and educational psychology.

Acknowledging this, in 2005 the Brickfields Education Group launched the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers (CIDTT) and the Diploma in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in partnership with the London Teacher Training College an internationally accredited TESOL training institution. Brickfields, is the largest Diploma in TESOL Centre in Malaysia.

These programmes offer new teachers the benefit of a structured theoretical framework critical to effective teaching. Practising teachers will find the programme a useful refresher or part of a continuing development plan to update themselves on the latest teaching theories and techniques. There is also the opportunity to gain a Professional Teaching Certification as the Diploma in TESOL includes a 21-hour supervised Teaching Practice component.

CIDTT meets the rigorous academic standards of Cambridge University and the TESOL Diploma is accredited by IATQI (International Association of TESOL Qualifying Associations) and IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) which ensures that the course structure, materials and delivery meet internationally accepted standards. Upon completion you can gain membership to IATEFL. The TESOL programme includes Teaching Practice Certification.

Both courses are taught by experienced teachers and students get comprehensive study materials including ready-to-use lesson plans and teaching materials. The course is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in teaching English. Both courses can be completed within 4 to 6 months.

According to Sunbeam Victor a Senior Lecturer on the TESOL programme, "Students on the TESOL programme are equipped with theoretical and practical teaching skills that can be used with young children, teenagers or adult language learners. Our focus is to ensure that anybody who graduates with the TESOL Diploma can immediately start teaching confidently."

The Cambridge Diploma for Teachers and Trainers is intended for teachers and trainers in educational establishments, training organisations and companies from a variety of teaching environments that can range across subject, phase and age of learners. This qualification is awarded by Cambridge. Assessment is by examination.
