Royal Selangor 125th anniversary tea set
ROYAL Selangor celebrates its 125th anniversary with a limited edition handmade tea set and a range of new designs that heralds its heritage of craftsmanship and innovative designs.
Limited to only 125 sets worldwide, the tea set is inspired by the designs of the 1930s featuring angular shapes and a unique ‘dimpled’ pattern on the surface created by neat rows of hammer marks.
The rattan insulated handles add a rustic feel to the geometric design.
Consisting of a teapot, sugar bowl and creamer, the set was crafted the traditional way using skills passed on by Royal Selangor’s founder Yong Koon more than a 100 years ago.
The set comes in an elegant wooden box with a serialised certificate and a coffee-table book, Born and Bred in Pewter Dust, written by Yong’s great granddaughter Chen May Yee.
To commemorate the anniversary, Royal Selangor has also come up with a special collection consisting of a range of miniatures of the company’s iconic designs.
The miniatures comprise six collectables including a melon shaped teapot created by Yong, and a tankard and water pitcher designed by the company’s first chief designer Anders Quistgaard.
Each miniature is approximately 2.5cm to 3cm in height and bears the 125th anniversary logo at the bottom.
The miniature collection is available at all Royal Selangor retail stores while the tea set is available at the main Royal Selangor retail stores.
Both collections can also be purchased from authorised dealers and online at www.royalselangor.com . – Rachelle Gan
