Bone up on health
International actress Datuk Michelle Yeoh is all for advocating the need to make bone health a lifetime commitment

bone loss is irreversible.

WATCHING
the slim and svelte Datuk Michelle Yeoh taking to the stage during the Science of Anlene Roadshow in 1 Utama, Damansara, recently is something to behold. She looked great and there was a healthy glow about her.

This international artiste, who is the ambassador for Anlene, said that women today are expected to be superwomen. Not only do they need to have a successful career, they also must be good mothers and wives.

"Bone health is a subject close to my heart as I lead a very hectic life," said Yeoh, who is well known for her martial arts roles in movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Touch, Mummy 3 and True Legend.

"I believe that it is important for women to know that bone loss is irreversible and at the early age of 30, your bones may start to deteriorate. I urge all Malaysians to make bone health their lifetime commitment early by simply drinking the right calcium milk."

John McKay, the general manager of Fonterra Sdn Bhd, the manufacturer of Anlene, said that the company had spent US$45 million (RM149.4 million) on bone health research and US$14 million (RM46.5 million) on the development of the Anlene brand.

He added: "We were the first to build the hi-calcium category in Malaysia. Anlene is the only milk to be clinically tested to protect bone strength within four weeks." The clinical research was based on the Southeast Asia clinical study that Anlene had done.

Joanne Toad, Fonterra’s senior health platform manager for Anlene, said it is important to note that bone loss is irreversible. "From the age of 30, as the rate of breakdown begins to outweigh the rebuilding process, bones may deteriorate."

One of the reasons many young women are avoiding milk is because they think they will put on weight. Yeoh disputed that. "I assure you that you won’t put on weight. Look at me!"

On how she maintains her looks and health, she added: "I think it’s a lifestyle. I start off the day with stretches, exercise and my Anlene. I’m always careful about what I put inside me. "

Yeoh still does many of her movie stunts herself. Keeping healthy is naturally of paramount importance.

The actress is currently finishing the shoot for Reign of Assassins in Taiwan which is produced by John Woo and Taiwanese director Chao-Bin Su.

After wrapping up the movie, which is scheduled to be out in September or October, Yeoh will be flying to Beijing for other work commitments.

The artiste is also actively involved in her role as ambassador for the United Nations’ Make Roads Safe campaign. With 2011 to 2020 declared as the global Decade of Action for Road Safety, Yeoh will be required to fly all over the world to promote this cause.

Thanks to her healthy lifestyle, Yeoh can continue to lead an active and productive life.
