Anwar may be referred to special privileges committee
by Hemananthani Sivanandam

KUALA LUMPUR (March 18, 2010): The government will consider referring opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the Special Rights and Privileges committee for uttering false statements in the Dewan Rakyat.

Speaking to reporters in parliament today, Minister in the Prime Minister’s office Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz said he will refer to the Cabinet to decide on the matter tomorrow.

"I have no power to decide if action should be taken or not. The power lies with the committee to make a decision," said Nazri who is in charge of Parliamentary affairs.

Nazri said the allegations made by Anwar were very serious.

"For a Muslim leader to be associated with a zionist (regime) is serious as we support Palestine and we’re against the zionist and Israeli administration.

"To associate the Prime Minister with an institution involved in zionist Israel activities is very serious," said Nazri.

Yesterday, Anwar had claimed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s 1Malaysia campaign copied the slogan called "1 Israel" devised for the country.

During a debate, Anwar had claimed that Apco Worldwide were led by Israelis who worked on former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s campaign.

Apco however issued a statement today which denied that it had a role in advising the prime minister to come out with the 1Malaysia concept. -- theSun
