TIME OUT :: Style
Sister act
by Soo Wern Jun

Cheryl Ho
is good at fixing broken bracelets and necklaces while her sister Adeline is an expert at website designing. With their expertise and love for charm bracelets, today they operate an online business which does custom-made charm bracelets and other accessories.

Looking for affordable and good quality charms were not easy when they first discovered the rising trend of wearing charm bracelets. There were only high end jewellery brands which sold charm bracelets initially but their hobby soon turned expensive when their interest started to grow, leading to their accumulation of more charm bracelets.

"We have to admit that our moods change and our tastes vary as we grow up. Both of us realise that there it is impossible for one to collect charm bracelets when the cost of a simple one-charm bracelet costs a minimum of RM200.

"That was when we started some research to source for more affordable means where not only can we alternate between different designs each day but also being able to collect as many charms as possible," expressed Adeline.

As a charm is a significant jewellery item which represents one’s personal traits and also tells the life story of an individual, it is only right that at RYLDesigns, Cheryl, 20, and Adeline, 26, allow customers to personalise or request for custom-made charm bracelets.

"For our customers who have been wearing charm bracelets, they usually would choose to custom-made their bracelets. Although it is best to custom-made, we also do ready-to-wear bracelets for customers who are new to charm bracelets.

"We would try our best to come out with a simple yet meaningful design to introduce the idea of how these charms are able to complement an individual’s character or an individual’s fashion statement," explained Cheryl.

Charms and bracelets may not be made of pure gold, silver or bronze materials, but the quality of the materials have been carefully determined.

"The charms and bracelets are mainly made of metal with silver, gold or bronze plating. We have gone through uncountable suppliers in order to ensure that the bracelets and charms possess a certain level of quality which is able to withstand our humid weather and does not face discolouration," added Cheryl.

Apart from operating an online business, Cheryl and Adeline have also been running their very own shopping bazaar since December last year.

Frequent bazaar patrons themselves, both sisters wanted to also gather blog shop owners – both new and existing ones – who are not exposed to the public through organising a bazaar.
