Selangor to act if Rasa sand mining activity is illegal
SHAH ALAM (July 15, 2010): The Selangor Government would act against a sand mine in Rasa, Hulu Selangor if it was found operating without a permit, said Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
"Even if it is operating legally, the state government will monitor its operations," he told a media conference after the state assembly sitting today.
Yesterday, former mentri besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo had disclosed that the sand mine was operating without a permit.
On Dr Khir's concern that the sand mining activities there could contaminate Sungai Selangor which provided raw water to the treatment plant at Bukit Badong and Bukit Tagar, Abdul Khalid said Dr Khir would be invited to monitor sand mining activities there.
He said the holes that had emerged due to the sand mining activities would be covered and the area restored, adding that the best examples were the Mines at Seri Kembangan and Sunway Resort in Subang Jaya.
Abdul Khalid said sand mining activities conducted by Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd would be monitored to ensure its sustainability.-- Bernama
